Quercetin

3,3',4',5,7-pentahydroxyflavone

One of the most abundant and well-researched flavonoid antioxidants found in nature — present in onions, apples, berries, and capers. Quercetin supports immune function, cardiovascular health, and cellular longevity through powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity.

Benefits: Cardiovascular Support, Energy, Immune Support, Mood & Stress, Neuroprotection
Type: Herbal Extract
Forms: Capsule, Powder

What Is It?

Quercetin is a flavonoid pigment found widely throughout the plant kingdom — particularly concentrated in capers, red onions, apples, berries, and green tea. As one of the most studied plant polyphenols in the world, quercetin has attracted significant research interest for its broad-spectrum biological activity.

It acts as a natural antihistamine, potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory agent, and senolytic (a compound that clears damaged senescent cells from the body) — making it one of the most versatile and promising compounds in the longevity and wellness space.

How It Works

Quercetin exerts its health benefits through multiple
complementary pathways:

- Antioxidant — neutralizes free radicals directly and
upregulates the body's own antioxidant enzyme systems
including superoxide dismutase and catalase

- Anti-inflammatory — inhibits multiple pro-inflammatory
enzymes and signaling molecules including NF-κB, COX-2,
and lipoxygenase

- Antihistamine — stabilizes mast cells and basophils, reducing histamine release and allergic response

- Senolytic activity — emerging research suggests quercetin selectively promotes the clearance of senescent ("zombie") cells that accumulate with age and drive
inflammation

- Immune modulation — supports balanced immune response and has demonstrated antiviral properties in laboratory research

- Cardiovascular — reduces LDL oxidation, improves endothelial function, and supports healthy blood pressure

Side Effects & Considerations

Quercetin is generally very safe and well tolerated:

- Well tolerated at standard doses (up to 1,000mg daily)
- Very high doses may cause headache, tingling, or digestive upset in sensitive individuals
- May interact with blood thinners — use caution with anticoagulant medications
- May interact with certain antibiotics and cyclosporine — consult your doctor
- Bioavailability is naturally limited — enhanced by combining with bromelain or vitamin C (both present
in Be Bliss formula)
- Pregnant or nursing women should consult a healthcare provider before use
- Those with kidney disease should use caution at high doses

Typical Dosage Range

200mg – 1,000mg daily

Most studies use 500-1,000mg daily for cardiovascular and immune benefits. Lower doses of 200-400mg are effective for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support. Bioavailability is significantly enhanced when taken with Vitamin C (as in Be Bliss) or bromelain. Take with food for best absorption.
Fat-soluble — a small amount of dietary fat improves uptake.

Research Notes

- Boots et al. (2008) — Review in European Journal of Pharmacology documented quercetin's broad anti-inflammatory and antioxidant mechanisms and its potential therapeutic applications across multiple disease states.

- Egert et al. (2009) — Randomized controlled trial in British Journal of Nutrition found quercetin supplementation (150mg/day) significantly reduced systolic blood pressure
and plasma oxidized LDL in overweight subjects.
